Program Notes
This graphic score was created using writer’s ink and sheaok tines on paper. The premise of this piece is to remind audiences of the intrinsic musicality of natural sound, to invite people to be still and listen to the environment using aesthetic beauty as an invitation, and through listening, to reconnect with the environment and themselves, with the understanding that human music is, at its heart, just controlled natural forces harnessed for expressive intent.
Performer’s Notes
This work is a guided improvisation in response to the premise, graphic images, and the expressive directions allocated to each page. Pages may be played attacca or separately with space between, as the players choose. Sheoak Branches should be chosen for their sound quality and dexterous maneuverability. Tines or wood may be used to play the snare and crotales. Read left to right, top to bottom of page
unless otherwise directed.
